Having worked my way up through the HR ladder for 30 something years, it’d be fair to say I know a thing or two about recruitment.  Without a doubt, it is THE most important and most overlooked card in any businesses deck. Getting it wrong can be like throwing several year’s salary down the drain with wasted ad costs and hundreds of hours wasted work.  From writing the job spec, marketing it, sifting CV’s and interviewing before the hire, to induction and training when they start. Not to mention disruption to the team, damage control and a long and complicated exit procedure when you realise the person doesn’t actually fit the role.

It’s a costly and time-consuming process, and I see the same problems being made today, in small and medium businesses, that I did as a Global HR director, responsible for 28 countries, 15 years ago.

Most of the time, these costly mistakes can be easily prevented by spending more time planning up front!
